Metis auto provisioning platform for Yealink and Snom devices

Metis provides a platform for auto-provisioning devices made by Yealink and Snom.

Auto-provisioning gives the ability to create and deploy a specific configuration to a physical device via Metis.

The following diagram shows the model manufacturers offer for auto provision.

Provisioning systems

Redirection - This is a system provided by device manufacturers. It associates devices' MAC addresses with an end-point provisioning platform. This is not accessible by end users. Devices are added and managed by the Packnet support team.

Packnet Provisioning - This platform allows for the following;

Configuration of physical devices via mac address.

Firmware management.

Create device templates.

Manage device security (manage and change https passwords)

Manage the deployment of configuration to physical devices.

Base Configuration - This is a template created by Packnet to deliver the minimum configuration required so that the device can be used with our telephony network

Additional Options - End users can configure and deploy options via Metis

Physical device - Once all options are created, the Metis platform will build and deploy the configuration file to the device. The device must be connected to the internet to receive the configuration file.

Three scenarios should be considered when using the Metis auto-provision platform.

Scenario 1

If the phones have been purchased from Packnet, we will automatically add their MAC addresses to our systems. You can then add the MAC addresses to the relevant customer account. Once that's done, just plug the phone into the internet, and it will auto-configure.

Scenario 2

If the phones have not been purchased from Packnet, you must email us to request that we add the MAC addresses to the "redirection" platform.

We will then get back to you once that is complete. You can then add the MAC addresses to the relevant customer account. Once that's done, just plug the phone into the internet, and it will auto-configure.

Scenario 2A

However, if the phones not purchased from Packnet have been previously used or bought secondhand, you should notify us before adding the mac addresses to the Metis platform, as we may require further information before they can use the auto-provisioning system.
